I am an associate professor of emerging media whose background is information studies. Information studies focus on informatics fields such as human-computer interaction, social network analyses, game studies, data sciences, and information systems. While versed in philosophy of sciences, social theory and methods, scientists in informatics fields also use computing sciences to research the interaction between human, societies, and technologies.

Thus, an analysis of the communicative practices of people through social media focuses on the political economy challenges, as well as the information architecture underlying the platform.

My research focuses on understanding how humans and machines interact in several registers. For example, I research how humans make sense of their interactions with machines using representations of their mental models; how machines represent their communications with humans through network visualizations; and how the interdependence of interactions between machines and humans in practices such as eye tracking generates visual data.

I am a cartoonist with wide-ranging experiences, including my own animation studio (Toon Doctor®), and making mobile apps like TED. Today, I still draw comics, like Johnny Bullet ®. I publish ComicBookBin, Canada’s largest comics news site.
